Job Discription
Mulhouse is a large city in the eastern French Alsace – more precisely in the border triangle of France, Germany and Switzerland. It lies ‚at the foot‘ of the Vosges Mountains. Once upon a time, the nation’s industrial revolution began in Alsace’s second largest city.
Mulhouse is in constant competition with Strasbourg, the capital of the region. Like many large cities in France, Mulhouse has a particularly high level of immigration, primarily from North African countries.
A diverse team wants to meet and serve them in everyday life.
Projekt:
Serving immigrants through the love of Jesus: Again and again there are opportunities to meet immigrants (e.g. at barbecues, seminars, festivities on holidays, etc.). There are regular leisure offers such as sports opportunities for children and youth as well as open intercultural contact work for interested immigrants.
As in any intercultural church planting work, personal contacts and their accompaniment are crucial.
Tasks: Personal relationships with immigrants (families) are important. As a short-term worker, one has the opportunity to make these contacts through ongoing ministries such as sports opportunities, street outreach, or open discussion groups, among others.
Service among students is also possible.
Activities: Building personal friendships with migrants, participating in training on how to interact with immigrants, bible studies, „mapping“ (= getting to know a neighborhood).
Team: The international team is made up of people from different countries with the goal of serving Muslims though the love of Jesus and creating culturally relevant small groups.
Chruches: UOur team works interdenominationally with the Evangelical Alliance. Short-term workers can join one of the existing churches and meet other young adults there.
Challanges: Flexibility is essential. Interacting with people requires initiative, openness, and enjoyment of new encounters. Creativity is required in meeting people from different backgrounds with God’s Word. The team language is French.
Special benefits: The team is very committed and cordial. German team members on site make it very easy to settle in.
Leisure Time: Mulhouse offers everything a big German city would offer as well.
